TOUR 2 TUESDAY, MAY 11 Experience Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob, with Lunch at the Falling Water Café in the Scenic Laurel Highlands
This tour will give you an extraordinary experience. It will start at the Sheraton Station Square where you will head off to the beautiful and scenic Laurel Highlands to discover Fallingwater. This is one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most widely acclaimed works, designed in 1935. The key to the setting of the house is the waterfall over which it is built. You will easily see why it has been voted the best building of the 20th century by the American Institute of Architects. While at Fallingwater, you will enjoy lunch at the beautifully designed Café, which will include creative and fresh seasonal foods, much of which is organic and grown locally. Next, you will visit Kentuck Knob, an extraordinary mid-50’s Usonian home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The hexagonally shaped Kentuck Knob was made largely with local fieldstone and tidewater red cypress allowing the house to blend seamlessly into the mountain on which it was built. The woods, meadows, and the gardens surrounding the house are filled with contemporary sculpture and historical artifacts. Stretching to the east, just beyond the back terrace, is a breathtaking panorama of the Youghiogheny River Gorge and the beautiful Laurel Highlands mountains that surround it. This experience is sure to be the highlight of your visit in Western Pennsylvania, and one you can’t afford to miss!
